The Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana is a welfare scheme launched by the central government , through which the government provides free gas connection to women from families living below the country’s poverty line. For this, the beneficiary is given a gas stove under the scheme and LPG cylinder is also given, the cost of which will be up to 3200 rupees , under the scheme, the beneficiary is given 1600 rupees by the government .
It is important that this is also given as a loan of 1600 rupees to gas company customers. Beneficiaries can repay this loan in installments if they wish. Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana 2.0, the second edition of the scheme has been launched by the government to benefit the citizens under the PM Ujjwala Yojana.
Benefits of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (Benefits of Ujjwala Yojana)
- Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana is a scheme launched by the central government for women from families living below the poverty line.
- Through this scheme, the government will provide free gas cylinders to women.
- Under the scheme, customers do not need to pay any loan on 6 refills for taking a 14.2 kg gas cylinder, while the EMI has to be paid after the commencement of the seventh refill.
- If you take a 5 kg cylinder, you will not have to pay any EMI for up to seventeen refills.
- Under the scheme, citizens who have 5 kg gas cylinders will be given the facility of 8 cylinders in 3 months.
- Under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, money will be transferred to the bank account of the beneficiaries to purchase gas.
The second cylinder installment will be sent to the beneficiary 15 days after the first installment given for the cylinder in the scheme. - Beneficiaries will receive information about the installment of free cylinder through SMS on their mobiles.
- More than 8 crore women of the country have been benefited during the first phase of PM Ujjwala Yojana.
- Under the scheme, families who live on rent and do not have residence certificate or identity card or ration card, will also be provided gas connection facility under PM Ujjwala Yojana 2.0.
- With the benefit of this scheme, the poor women of the country who have to cook food in stoves and its smoke is a risk of many diseases, will be able to lead a healthy life by getting free gas cylinders.

Objective of PM Ujjwala Yojana
The main objective of launching PM Ujjwala Yojana by the Central Government is to facilitate free gas connection to all the families whose financial condition is not good due to which they cannot afford gas connection. Because of this, women who have to cook with the help of wood or dung cakes in stoves and its harmful fumes are at risk of many respiratory diseases, along with polluting the environment, thus improving the lives of women. For this, SAKAR provides LPG cylinder and gas facility to them under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, so that women can cook food in gas without any problem and are protected from the risk of diseases.
Eligibility for PM Ujjwala Yojana Application
To apply in the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, the applicant has to fulfill the prescribed eligibility, only those who fulfill the same will be able to avail the benefits of the scheme, which are as follows.
- Applicants applying to the scheme must be Indian residents.
- Only women will get benefit of PM Ujjwala Yojana.
- The age of the applicant should be 18 years or above, only then they can avail the benefit of the scheme.
- Under this scheme women living below poverty line or having BPL card will be eligible to apply.
Such families who do not have LPG connection in their household will be eligible to apply.
